Non-desilting of Pratap canal concerns GVS | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Apr 20:Gram Vikas Sangh, NGO organized a meeting at Khour wherein concern was shown with regard to non-desilting of Pratap Canal and its offshoot during the current year 2010-2011. It shows the hollowness of tall claims of the Govt that farmers’ interests are their priority. Irrigation system which is the life line of farmers and basic need to boost the rural economy and also that of the country has been neglected during the current year i.e. 2010-2011 by not carrying out desiltation work and also ignoring many such repair works which are of utmost importance. Damage of some of the structure had causes heavy loss to the farmers by way of washing away of fertile land. Keeping in view the maintenance of transparency, it was demanded that work executed by the irrigation department in Block Khour during the year 2010-2011, under different scheme, should be made public for the satisfaction of the farmers in particular and masses in general, it would, beyond all doubts, ensure the credibility of the department as well as that of the Government and boost mutual faith and understanding. It was also unanimously resolved that GVS would extend full cooperation to government for taking initiative in ensuring transparency in the functioning of all the department and implementation of the schemes introduced both by the state as well as the central in a way that benefits provided under such schemes should reach at grass root level. Meeting was chaired by O P Gupta, chairman and attended by besides other Messers Ravi Singh, Mohan Singh, Balbhadar Singh, Kamal Singh and others executive members.
