Night temp dips further, water level in rivers recede | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT SRINAGAR, April 20: Night temperatures dipped further in the Ladakh region and Kashmir valley, though weather remained dry today after days of rains. There is, however, a forecast of fresh snow or rains at isolated places till this evening. Gulmarg, the world famous ski resort in north Kashmir was registered colder than Leh and Kargil in Ladakh region after the minimum dipped to minus 2.9 degrees. The water level in rivers and their tributaries has also started receding in the valley. In land erosion-hit Kulgam, authorities have rescued 20 families till now. The minimum temperature dropped by three notches in the summer capital, Srinagar, though the weather remained dry since last evening after rains for four days, inundating several low lying areas. A Met department spokesman said western disturbances (WD) which remained active since April 16 had moved away from the region. But, there could be light snow or rains at isolated places today also, he said. The sky in the city would remain partial cloudy during the day, he said, adding the minimum was recorded 5 degrees, three degrees below normal. It was two notches less than yesterday when the temperature was 6.8 degrees. Pahalgam, health resort in south Kashmir, recorded one degree minimum temperature against yesterdays 3.4 degrees. Gulmarg remained coldest in the Kashmir valley where the temperature dipped to minus 2.9 degrees against minus 1.7 degree yesterday. Leh and Kargil in Ladakh region, which remained cut off from the rest of the state due to closure of Zojila pass since December 1, last year, recorded 0.8 degree minimum temperature against yesterday's 5 degree and 3.6 degree respectively.
