NSF demands fair panchayat election | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, April 20: he activists of National Secular Forum (NSF) today burnt the effigy of Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) BR Sharma in protest against the largest scale irregularities being surfaced in the ongoing Panchayat Elections. The protesters raised slogans against the Election Department for deceiving the candidates as well as innocent people particularly those residing in rural areas. Addressing a media person, District Chairman NSF Surjit Choudhary alleged that CEO has failed to manage the sanctity of the elections with his mismanagement. Everywhere it is hue and cry over the foul play by the authorities concerned. Only two phases of the elections has been conducted but there have been numerous complaints against the officials deployed in the election duty. At some places, there is mismanagement galore whereas at other places undue favour is being offered to the blue eyed candidates at the instance of political bosses. It seems that Election Department was not geared up to handle the responsibility. The CEO must owe the responsibility of this system failure and should step down from his post. Or else ensure the transparency in the election system and maintain dignity of the election system.
