| Lady Inspector caught in CC camera while taking "graft", suspended | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Apr 20: Known for her arrogance and overbearing social behaviour, traffic police Inspector Anita Chopra has been placed under suspension for allegedly accepting graft from a minibus operator near the Gujjar Nagar Tawi bridge here.
Police sources said Anita, alleged to be in the habit of showering choicest abuses on anyone who came across her on the road, was caught in a close-circuit (CC) camera, which was being monitored by cops in police control room here, while allegedly taking money from a traffic violator near the Gujjar Tawi bridge.
Unaware of the CC camera keeping a tab on her activities, she allegedly accepted money from a traffic violator for letting him go with impunity from law, the sources added.
Sources said an action against her was likely to be taken, especially at a time when the traffic police wing was headed by IGP Hemant Lohia, known in police circles for his honesty and integrity.Some senior police officers, however, allegedly wanted to save her
because of the political pressure, the sources added.
Taking cognizance of the matter, a senior police officer directed traffic police DIG Danish Rana to look into it.Rana, in turn, directed traffic police SP Zahid Manhas to hold a probe and report him accordingly, the sources added. Sources said as the allegation of corruption was found to be true during inquiry, Anita was placed under suspension.
