Two held with 78.5 kg poppy straw | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT KATHUA, Apr 20: Two drug peddlers were today arrested by police at
Sakta Chak near nagri Parole here while they were trying to smuggle
78.5 kg poppy straw in three trucks. The accused were identified as Harbans Singh alias Angha, son of
Kirpal Singh of ward No 14, Sawan Chak, and Vijay Kumar, son of
Bishambar Dass of Sakta Chak. Police sources said acting on a tip-off, cops intercepted three
trucks (JK02D/0863, JK02R/7463 and JK08/7713) at Sakta Chak and
recovered 78.5 kilograms of poppy straw from them. While the drivers fled the spot, cops caught hold of Angha and
Vijay. The trucks, which belonged to Angha, were also seized, the
sources added. A manhunt had been launched to apprehend the escaped drivers. Sources said the consignment had been brought from Awantipora in
Kashmir for its sale in Kathua and its adjoining areas. The accused were booked under NDPA Act.
