Power generation motor nerve of development: Omar | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, April 21: Describing power generation the motor nerve in socio-economic transformation and holistic development of the State, Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah today said that his Government has flagged this sector as one of the top most priorities. “Three-pronged strategy to catapult generation, transmission and distribution of power is underway with a thrust on harnessing the maximum hydro energy within the shortest possible time line”, he said and highlighted the role of Jammu and Kashmir State Power Development Corporation (JKSPDC) in this regard. Chairing the 62nd meeting of Board of Directors of JKSPDC here, the Chief Minister who is also Chairman of the Corporation underlined the need for accelerating pace of work on various power projects under implementation in the State in various modes. Omar Abdullah said that the joint venture between JKSPDC, NHPC and PTC for 1000 MW Pakaldul, 600 MW Kiru and 520 MW Kawar would help in a big way to boost up generation capacity and upgrade power supply to the consumers. He said many more projects have been taken in hand for the purpose. Chief Minister got detailed brief about the current status of 93 MW New Ganderbal, 690 Ratli hydro electric projects, proposed geothermal project at Pugah in Leh, Baglihar Hydro Electric Project--II (BHEP) and other power schemes under implementation in the State.While receiving brief about the functioning and present status of BHEP-I, the Chief Minister directed the JKSPDC to ensure restoring the Project’s full generation capacity.
