Sakina for rationalizing fee structure in professional institutions

JAMMU, April 21:
A committee of senior officers of Social Welfare, Health, Technical Education departments and DOEACC will be constituted to look into the possibility of bringing uniformity in fee structure in the computer and paramedical courses run by different private institutions vis-à-vis SC, ST and OBC students drawing scholarship from Social Welfare department.
This was decided at a high level meeting of officers, chaired by Social Welfare Minister Sakina Itoo here today.
The meeting stressed the need to rationalize fee structure in the private professional institutes and prevent managements thereof from charging fee dues to the downtrodden students as per their whims and fancies.It was stated that proper monitoring of these institutions is must to protect and promote the interests of the students belonging to weaker sections so that they could develop professional and technical know-how and open up employment opportunities for themselves.
Addressing the meeting, the Minister said henceforth the fee for technical courses would be reimbursed to the students of various categories only if they are admitted in the institutions registered with Technical Education department, DOEACC and IGNOU.
Minister expressed concern over the wide variation in fee structure in different institutions and stressed the need to have uniform fee structure in place as far as possible to offset chances of fleecing the poor students. She said disparity in the fee structure has direct bearing on the Social Welfare department, which is providing scholarships to lakhs of students under different welfare schemes.
Commissioner/Secretary, Social Welfare, Jeet Lal Gupta, Commissioner/ Secretary Higher Education, Tanvir Jahan Commissioner/ Secretary, Technical Education, B.A Runyal Directors of Social Welfare, Jammu, Srinagar and representatives of DOEACC were present in the meeting.
