472.42 Cr earmarked for construction, repair of Panchayat Ghars: Sagar | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, APRIL 21: An amount of Rs. 472.42 crore has been earmarked for the construction of 1788 new Panchayat Ghars and repairing 1603 existing ones respectively. This information was given at a high level meeting chaired by the Minister for Rural Development and Panchayats, Ali Mohammad Sagar. The Minister said that since 3-tier Panchayat system is going to be put into place, there was an urgent need to have Panchayat buildings constructed, which would be named as Apna Panchayat Ghar, by convergence of funds available in various schemes including those of MGNREGA (BNRSK). He directed the officers to speed up the same so that the requisite additional infrastructure is provided to different Panchayats. The meeting was told that contribution from MGNREGA for the construction of these 1788 Panchayat Ghars would be Rs 20 lakh per unit and R. 2 lakh would be spent on repair of 1603 Panchayat Ghars respectively. It was also given out that land would also be purchased for construction of 888 Panchayat Ghars in respect of those Halqa Panchayat which do not have land. The Minister later took the meeting of State Level Quality Monitors (SLQM) engaged to oversee the implementation of MGNREGA in the State. Commissioner Secretary, Rural Development Department, Yadulllah was also present in the meeting. Sagar impressed upon the concerned to ensure that the funds earmarked under the scheme are being judiciously spent.
