JKCWS stage dharna against female feticide | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, April 21: J&K Children’s Welfare Society(JKCWS) organized awareness dharna against female feticide outside Press Club, Jammu under the chairmanship of S. Gurdeep Singh Sasan Chairman of the society. Qamar Ali Akhoon Minister for F&S & Transport was Chief Guest. J&K Children’s Welfare Society adopted eleven female children for education purpose and Sasan handed over post dated 150 cheques each to Qamar Ali Akhoon for further distribution to five poor female children in Kargil district. The female children were adopted from Jammu district and Akhoon handed over post dated cheques to them. Children’s from presentation Convent School, Gandhi Nagar, Madr-e-Meharban Institution and S.D. Tara Puri, High School, Gandhi Nagar participated in the awareness dharna. Addressing the gathering Akhoon lauded the role of the society for awakening the masses about female feticide. He said that female feticide or sex determination is illegal and unethical and government is determined to eradicate this menace from the society which is spreading like cancer. He said that the constitution guarantees equal rights to all the citizen’s of India irrespective of caste, create, sex etc Akhoon assured that the government will deal sternly with offenders and if necessary will amend PC-PNDT Act.Akhoon expressed his serious concern over the declining female sex ratio in latest census and said that in Kashmir division it is in a better position but it is planning in Jammu division. He said that female child should be considered as boon not as bane especially in that society where gooddess is worshiped. He said in holly Quran in chapter-6 verse 151 that he has forbidden you kill not your children for fear, poverty Sasan who presided over the function expressed his satisfaction over the gaining of momentum against female feticide which he started five year back in J&K and Punjab. He described that act as the one of the heinous and cruel act against humanity and is one the worst type of gender discrimination. He urged the government to sternly deal with the perpetrator of this henious crime. He demanded amendment in PC-PNDT Act and booking of offenders under section IPC-304 (abetment) which is non-bailable offence. Sasan further demanded formation of state level supervisory board for monitoring and reviewing the implementation of this act in the state Sasan appealed to the students and young generation to wake up and fight against this menace on war footing to eradicate this sin from the society. He appealed to the masses to strengthen his hand and join the movement against female feticide for saving human race in this beautiful planet. No further appealed to the people to alteast adopt one female child for education purpose and thanks those who sponsored 1650 female children for education purposes so far. Kashmir Singh, Jugal Mahajan, Anita Rashpal Singh, Reva Sasan, Dr. A.D Singh, Dr. SK Raina, Dr. Swarn Singh, Sushila Jamwal, Dr. Sarabjit Singh, Dr. KS Kotwal, Capt. PP Singh, Surinder Singh (Adv.), Baldev Singh, Abihandan Singh, Gagandeep Singh, Jagpal Singh and Soma Devi.
