JMC continues drive against adulteration | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Apr 21: Under instructions from Commissioner Municipal Corporation Jammu, S.C. Sawhney, the Health Officer of Jammu Municipal Corporation alongwith team of Food Inspectors continued the drive to check the quality of food items especially in view of the ensuing Summer Season and inspected about 180 food establishments like Milk & Milk Product Shops / Vendors, Dhabas / Restaurants, Fruit Juice Shops, Meat Shops, Tea Stalls, Sweet Shops, Bakery shops, Ice Candies, Khoya Kulfi, Sugar Canes Juice Rehries etc. in the areas of Bakshi Nagar, Akhnoor Road, Maheshpura, Janipur, New Plot, Jewel Area, Nai Basti, Satwari etc. During the inspection 31 defaulters were booked under the provisions of Prevention of Food Adulteration Act 1954 and J&K Municipal Corporation Act, 2000. An amount of Rs. 12500.00 (Rupees twelve thousand and five hundred) was charged as fine from the defaulters and about two quintals of Sub – Standard Milk, 50 kgs of Milk Cream, 40 Kgs of Sweets not fit for human consumption were destroyed on spot. The team also seized polythene carry bags from various food establishments in these areas. All the food establishments’ owners were strictly warned to adhere to the terms and conditions of PFA licenses and keep their premises neat and clean for ensuring supply of pure & good quality of food items to the costumers and are also instructed not to use polythene carry bags. Besides this, the enforcement Staff led by Chief Enforcement Officer alongwith Police Force continued the drive and removed banners / hoardings / kiosks which were erected upon electric poles / public places without permission in the areas of Digiana, Gangyal etc and seized two no’s of truck loads of such material and impounded the same in the Municipal Yard at Town Hall, Jammu.
