J&K Bank to establish financial literacy centres | | | Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Apr 21: Committed to its slogan of financial empowerment, J&K Bank believes that people need basic financial awareness to handle the business professionally. Besides, such awareness helps people across all business activities in taking viable decisions on day to day basis. This was stated by Mushtaq Ahmad, Chairman & CEO, J&K Bank in the meeting held with office bearers of Kashmir Traders and Manufacturers Federation (KTMF) here at bank’s Corporate Headquarters on Wednesday. While KTMF was represented, among others, by Mohammad Yasin Khan, President, Manzoor Ahmad, Vice-President and Bashir Ahmad, General Secretary, Bank’s President and Secretary, Parvez Ahmad was also present on the occasion. Calling for a concerted and coordinated effort to improve the business environment in the state, Mushtaq Ahmad while assuring KTMF of bank’s support, urged the representatives of traders and manufacturers to come forward with their suggestions and grievances. “I believe the best business atmosphere can be created by an honest and transparent interaction between the bank and its customers”, he said. KTMF representatives apart from discussing various trade and industry related issues sought effective intervention from the state government, central government and banks operating in the state of J&K in view of the losses suffered by the traders during the last year’s unrest. In his response, Mushtaq apprised the KTMF delegation that the bank had already discussed this issue at the SLBC meeting and later, in consultation with the state government, taken up the matter with the RBI. Underlining the need for financial literacy amongst the trading community of the state, Mushtaq stressed on the need to have frequent sessions for providing basic financial tips and solutions. “J&K Bank, conscious of its role and responsibility, is planning to establish financial literacy centres across the state of J&K”, he said. Mohammad Yasin Khan, President, KTMF described the relationship between the bank and businessmen as symbiotic, based on mutual trust and cooperation. He also assured the Chairman complete support in realising his vision of “a financially literate and empowered state of J&K”.
