A political stunt, says Bhim, PYC raises pitch against JKNPP
Early Times Report
Jammu, April 21: The political outcry and blame game in Cross Voting issue in the state which erupted during LC polls on April 13 has not died down yet. After BJP High Command announced its ‘action’ against the 7 MLAs guilty of cross voting act , a new war of words has begun among the political parties, apparently in a bid to settle political scores while taking dig at the opponents.

On expected lines, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) today asked Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to prove his innocence in what it termed as ‘ infamous Cash for Vote scam’ contending BJP has already initiated action against its legislators for indulging in cross voting in favour coalition candidates in the Legislative Council elections.
In a joint statement issued here today, PDP leaders said that decision of BJP national president Nitin Gadkari to suspend seven of party MLAs from the primary membership of the party has established that there was something fishy in the whole episode. They further said that BJP legislators were suspended for their “deal” with the ruling coalition. It has now almost established that some MLAs were purchased by the ruling coalition to ensure victory of its candidates in the Legislative Council elections.
Reminding Omar Abdullah of his recent statement in which he had statement that he would resign if involvement of government was established in the Cash for Vote scandal. “Decision of the BJP high command to suspend its MLAs has established involvement of government in the whole episode and now ball in the court of the Chief Minister”, they said and added that those involved in purchasing MLAs were also equally responsible for encouraging corruption. The joint statement was issued by Ved Mahajan, Daman Bhasin and Shanti Devi.
While Prof. Bhim Singh, Chairman, J&K National Panthers Party and Member, NIC has described the so-called suspension of seven tainted BJP MLAs who has voted for Congress and NC for huge cash on April 13, Pradesh Youth Congress has squarely blamed him for indulging in somewhat similar act asking Bhim to come clean in the matter after BJP. Criticizing BJP leadership, he Panthers Chief reminded the national leadership of the party that the law on the subject is very clear that any MLA or a Legislator who defies the whip of the party shall stand disqualified suo-moto.
The Chief of the Panthers Party , a noted jurist and constitutional lawyer said that the Speaker should take cognizance of the matter and expel all the seven MLAs of BJP who have been notified by the party high command as bribe takers. He said that Governor of J&K is the custodian of the Constitution and Head of the Legislature of J&K. It is mandatory that the Governor should also take appropriate action in this regard. He said that it is constitutional duty of the competent authority to declare all the seven BJP MLAs as disqualified no matter whether they submit their resignation from the Legislative Assembly.
Prof. Bhim Singh said that the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah is a direct beneficiary and so is PCC Chief, Prof. Saifuddin Soz and therefore they have to be tried in accordance with the Anti Corruption Law as well as the enactment of J&K Legislature on the subject.
He further said that suspension of the MLAs who have been charged by their party itself as bribe takers for selling the people’s trust (votes) to the direct beneficiaries namely Omar Abdullah and Prof. Soz is only an eyewash and a political stunt to divert the attention of the electorates from the offence BJP Legislators have committed. Moreover, he said that the direct beneficiaries should also be dismissed from their respective constitutional positions so that they could be brought to justice in a fair trial.

On the other hand, Pradesh Youth Congress led by its senior Vice-President,R. S. Pathania, has also stepped up the tempo seeking action against the Panthers MLAs for violating the party direction and voting for PDP
candidates in the recently-concluded Legislative Council elections.
”Suspension of seven BJP MLAs by the party high command for
floor-crossing has set the tone for establishing high standards of ethics and parliamentary propriety for the legislators in this sensitive state of J & K” Congress leader said adding that the highly unethical, uncalled for and unjustified conduct of Panthers MLAs has provoked the party candidate and known SC leader, Faquir Nath to retire from politics.

The way call-detail records of BJP MLAs were used to work it out as to what much of ‘bribe’ money they have been paid for cross-voting, it is highly unfortunate that the MLAs who are pretty vocal about corruption, accountability and maladministration within the Assembly have indulged in a worst sort of horse-trading by violating the party direction and voting for a party
which they and the supremo of their party, Prof Bhim Singh, had been repeatedly dubbing as ‘anti-national’ and ‘anti-social’. The Youth Congress reasonably suspects that large exchange of ‘booty’ has taken place while securing the votes of Panthers MLAs for PDP candidate.
He further added that despite the intra-party action for indiscipline and unparliamentary conduct, a case under Prevention Of Corruption Act needs to be registered against the three legislators of Panthers Party too.
