Indian media turns criminals into celebrities

NEW DELHI, NOV. 17
It has been a year of trials in India. More outside the courts than within. Manu Sharma, accused of murdering Jessica Lal, Mohammad Afzal Guru,accused of plotting the terror attack on the Indian Parliament, Santosh Singh, found guilty and sentenced to death for the rape and murder of Priyadarshini Mattoo, have now all become household names across the country.
With unprecedented--and mostly unnecessary--coverage of the cases, the Indian media has sadly turned these criminals into celebrities, albeit of notoriety. In a rather bizarre trend of sorts, TV channels and websites have turned to the common man resulting in public trials, with every Amar, Akbar and Anthony US
