Atul performs well in international chess meet | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Sports & Allied News JAMMU, April 22: Former state chess champion, Atul Gupta has made state proud by giving improved performance in the International Challenger Tournament held at Pattaya beach in Thailand. An officer with J&K Bank, who is presently posted at branch office Town Hall, Atul played seven games. He won four against opponents from Russia, Australia and Thailand while lost one and held his opponent to a draw in another. In all, 76 players from 30 countries participated in this tournament. “I’m thankful to my organization, J&K Bank for extending a helping hand in my endeavor to participate in an international event,” said Atul. Atul, who is also president of All J&K Chess Association, was all praise for chairman of Bank’s Sports Board, Tafazal Hussain and secretary, Amin Khan in encouraging sports in the organisation.
