Oldie beaten by DSP; HC directs IGP to file status report | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Apr 22: In an alleged incident in which Bari Brahmana DSP had beaten up a 92-year-old man on February 25 last, Justice Sunil Hali of the state hight court today directed Jammu region IGP to file a status report. Dharam Singh (92) filed a petition in the HC, alleging that Bari Brahmana DSP had mercilessly beaten him on the instigation of Bhagwan Dass of ward No 7, Bassi Brahamana, on February 25 without showing him any reason. He sustained serious injuries and was admitted to the GMC hospital. He approached senior police officers with a complaint against the DSP, but when no action was initiated against him, he moved court, seeking direction to the respondents to assign the investigation to any independent agency of state, ie vigilance organization or crime branch for taking appropriate action against the DSP and Baghwan Dass. He also sought compensation to the tune of Rs 10 lakh. Justice Hali issued notice to IGP, Jammu division, and Bari Brahmana DSP returnable within three weeks and also directed respondents to file status report.
