Govt betrayed contractual workers: GEJAC | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, April 22: Blaming state government of ‘betraying’ the contractual employees working in various departments in the state, Jammu and Kashmir Government Employees Joint Action Committee (GEJAC) has warned to launch state wide agitation if contract workers are not regularized. Addressing a press conference here today, committee comprising of nearly two dozen unions has alleged that government has failed in its commitment given to the employees that it will start regularization process. “There was an agreement between Finance Minister and workers that regularization process would start in six months but so far nothing has been done. They had announced the plan in 2009”, said Darshan Magotra, chairman of the committee. He said that even the report has also not been submitted which could have given a broader roadmap how this process would be implemented in Jammu and Kashmir. He said that thousands of people have completed more than seven years in their respective departments, but it is unfortunate that so far they have not become permanent employees. GEJAC has also lashed out at the government for delaying the release of the 6th Pay Commission arrears which is the right of the workers who are facing the burden of rising prices in recent past. “Arrears should be released with immediate effect without delay so that people can cope with the rising inflation.”, Magotra said. He said that nearly 4.5 lakh workers have already rejected the road map issued by the state to clear the Pay Commission arrears and administration is forcing them to take path of agitation to get their right. Committee has also urged all the faction of the employees to come on single platform and fight a united battle against the administration which is making every effort to break the unity of the workers.
