Jamia rally vows to expose Showkat’s killers | | | Srinagar, Apr 22 (KNS): Separatist leadership Friday vowed to expose the killers of Maulana Showkat Ahmad Shah even if they belonged to the pro-freedom camp. Separatist groups held sit-in protests for a second consecutive Friday against the killing of Moulana Showkat in an IED blast on April 8. On the call of ‘All Party Conference’ separatist leaders offered Friday prayers at historic Jamia Masjid here. They made it clear that the facts shall be brought before the public in the assassination of Moulana Showkat. The Hurriyat Conference (M) chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, accepted that the people in Kashmir Valley had been anguished at the murder of Maulana Showkat. “People and parties are depressed in the wake of this murder. It is a travesty of justice that those who kill leaders next day issue statements mourning their death,” he said. Mirwaiz also said the separatist political leadership was being targeted in a well planned conspiracy to defeat the “genuine and justified freedom struggle of the Kashmiri people.” “New Delhi could not suppress the voice of the Kashmiris during the last 20 years and today this voice is being heard throughout the world. No power can defeat the genuine freedom struggle of the people in Kashmir who have made tremendous sacrifices for this cause,” he said. Amid slogans like ‘Katilon Ko Nanga Karo’ (unveil the murderers), Mirwaiz said, “Conspiracies are being hatched to disgruntle Kashmiris from the movement. There are some elements who have infiltrated in the ranks of freedom movement who are trying to defame it by their actions. Time has come to throw such elements out,” he vowed. Commenting on the police claims that the assassins of Maulana Showkat had been arrested and the murder plot unearthed, the Mirwaiz said, “We neither accept nor reject the police report. We will wait for the final report from the government and then analyze it. At our level, we are also trying to probe the murder.” The JKLF chairman, Mohammad Yasin Malik, in his speech said that time has come when the nation should know the truth about the killings from Mirwaiz Molvi Farooq to Abdul Gani Lone and Dr Abdul Ahad Guroo, Qazi Nisar, Prof Abdul Ahad Wani, Advocate Hussam-ud-Din, Mufti Jamal-ud-Din, Molvi Mushtaq Ahmad, Prof Ramzan and now Moulana Showkat. “There is no way out but to speak truth before the nation about these killings. We have to be ready to face the realities so that no pro-freedom leader is killed outside a masjid or a shrine,” Malik said. The JKLF chairman said that in a pre-planned conspiracy, efforts are being made by anti-movement elements to ‘convert our freedom-movement into a civil war.’“We have to jointly defeat the nefarious designs of such elements,” he asserted. Others who offered prayers at Jamia Masjid and addressed the people included, Ameer Jamait-e-Islami, Sheikh Ghulam Hassan, acting president of Jamiat-e-Ahali-Hadit, Molvi Ghulam Rasool Malik, Altaf Ahmad representative of Hurriyat (G) chairman, Syed Ali Shah Geelani and Agha Syed Hassan.
