‘Split group’ speculation gaining ground…..?

‘Conspiracy from insider to sideline Prof Gupta……….’

SAROJ RAZDAN

Jammu: Post ‘action’ from the High command , in what appears to be the BJP Legislative Party heading for a ‘split’, two MLAs out of the 7 suspended members today came out in open to ‘challenge’ the decision of leadership in shortlisting only 7 and giving clean chit to rest of the four in the Legislative Council cross voting scam. In a revolting mood, MLA Reasi Baldev Raj Sharma and MLA Bani Lal Chand questioned the criteria which high command adopted in establishing their involvement and said they were ready to undergo narco test on their own expenses, provided the party decided so for all 11 MLAs. Contending the decision of the party a ’misjudgement’ and ‘totally false’, the two MLAs even went on say this was a conspiracy by some ‘insider’ to sideline ‘their’ leader Prof Chaman Lal Gupta in the party affairs.
A day after Baldev Raj Sharma and Lal Chand along with three more suspended members exhibiting defiance and revolt against the high command approached the Speaker of J&K Legislative Assembly Mohammad Akbar Lone and asked him to treat their resignations as withdrawn, the duo went a step further in refusing and refuting the decision of high command questioning modus operandi that led to shortlsiting 7 involved in cross voting. The tone of defiance was reflective in the assertion that treating all four as innocent was erroneous as there was more to what the leadership was given to understand during the parade before the high command. Even as the two suspended legislators spoke only for themselves, what lent some credence to the ‘split group’ speculation was their repeated assertion and visible tilt towards Prof Chaman Lal Gupta, while raising misjudged decision of the high command.

“It was a well thought out conspiracy hatched by the coalition government with the help of some insider to tarnish the image of the BJP MLAs………..it is known to everyone that among the party MLAs throughout his political career has been closest to the ruling party…”, they said while speaking to media here today. Interesting to note was that two MLAs alleging and reaffirming repeatedly involvement of the chief whip, who they said despite their suggestions and advice of issuing a whip for all to abstain did not pay heed. “ It was the chief whip who kept on expressing his serious concern over the fears of cross voting by the party MLAs two days ahead of the polls ……I asked him as chief whip it was duty to restrain all members from casting their votes…….I also suggested that in the backdrop of his apprehensions it was proper for all members to abstain even before I cast my vote on the polling day but he ignored that….”, said Baldev Raj sharma, questioning if he was worried and his apprehensions were based on some inputs why he did not agree to abstaining suggestion. He said this ‘fact’ was presented in front of the finding committee and high command as well but ‘ no body listened to them’. “ It is well laid out conspiracy ………we have been seen saying it and do not hesitate to say that some ‘detractors are hell bent to damage the party in connivance with NC……save the party from Farooq Abdullah….that is my suggestion to the high command”, Lal Chand said, without naming anyone.
The two legislators pleaded innocence and maintained they voted in favour of the party candidate. We will now take the whole matter in front of ‘janta ki adalat(Public)……..it is for them to decided and decipher who is guilty and who is innocent as we have a firm belief the party high command decision is not based just criteria, the two MLAs added. “We question how high command has shortlisted 7 MLAs and on what basis they have given clean chit to rest four…….”, they said adding all 11 MLAs are supposed to justify and prove innocence and for this all must undergo brain mapping test. They even said in the backdrop of the party high command having suspended them, their resignations have become redundant and therefore need not be considered by the Speaker. This explains why five of them called on him yesterday. Pertinent to mention is that out of 7 suspended MLAs, Prof Chaman Lal Gupta nd Prof Garu Ram did not approach Speaker.
"Five of the seven suspended legislators have withdrawn their resignations after we met the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly here. We have asked the Speaker in writing that resignation letters which we handed to our party high command should be considered withdrawn," Baldev Sharma adding "We had resigned on moral grounds. The BJP high command not only suspended us but also issued show cause notices. So there is no ground for the resignation now," Sharma, who led the panel of five suspended legislators to Speaker explained.
