Axshaya Project for TB cControl launched

Srinagar, apr 22: Minister of State for Health and Medical Education Department, Javed Ahmed Dar, launched the Axshaya project organized by JK Voluntary Health and Development Association (JK VHADA) at Srinagar for eradication of tuberculosis disease from the state.
The function was organized in collaboration with Divisional Administration, Kashmir.
Welcoming the chief guest and other participants A.M. Mir IAS (retd) executive director of Voluntary Health Association said “TB has been thriving in Kashmir since many decades despite the efforts of state and central government to check it”.
He further added that the RNTCP programme introduced in the country has shown fairly good results and our state has also benefited by establishing 25 TB control units, 1325 Dot centers and 1640 Dot providers.
Mir said that under Axshaya project the association will strengthen civil society involvement in TB care and control.
The Health Minister appreciated the role of J&K Voluntary Health Association and promised greater support of Government for the fight against TB and directed the NGO’s present and health officials to pace up their work in rooting out the disease.
The Minister said “Mechanisms should be adopted to create mass awareness at grass root levels to control TB by holding seminars in public places like schools and colleges.”
The function was also attended by Director Health services Kashmir Salim-Ur-Rehman, state TB officer Gurcharan Singh P. C. Bhatnagar (VHAI), G.Q. Allaqband, Bilqees Jameela, additional district Development commissioner Srinagar, Sarmad Hafeez, Subarat Mohanty from International Union Against Tuberculosis & Lung Diseases, Manmohan Sharma, Executive Director Punjab (VHA) and a large number of civil society members and NGO’s, amongst others.
Javaid Ahmed Dar, MOS Health & Medical Education Department later on released a book on TB control “Tapidik Ki Behtar Dekh Bal.” (Better cure for TB) translated to Urdu by J&K Voluntary Health Association.
