| I WILL NOT UNITE WITH APHC' : GEELANI | | |
Srinagar, Nov 17 The Tehrik Hurriyat Conference Chief,Syed Ali Shah Geelani has once again made it clear that come what may he would not unite with those belonging to the All Party Hurriyat Conference (APHC) because they had “deviated from the basic stand.” He even refused to have anything to do with adoption of a common minimum programme which could facilitate involvement of representatives of Kashmiri people in the bilateral talks at an opportune time. Sources said during his meeting with Pakistan Foreign secretary in New Delhi on November 14, Syed Ali Shah Geelnai flatly refused his suggestion on the need for unity among all Kashmiri separatists. Sources said that the Pakistani diplomat was not happy with Mr Geelani’s criticism of Gen. Parvez Musharraf . Mr Geelani had blamed the establishment in Pakistan for having diluted its old stand on Kashmir. He wanted Mr Khan to convey to Gen. Musharraf that he should not deviate from the known stand of Pakistan on Kashmir. However, his rivals, APHC leaders’ presentation before Mr Khan had gone well with Pakistani authorities. According to Molvi Abbas Ansari,a senior APHC leader, who along with Prof. Abdul Gani Bhat, Mr Bilal Gani Lone and Aga Hassan Budgami, had a detailed meeting with Mr Khan said today that “the Pakistani Foreign secretary had suggested to us also to explore the possibility of uniting all separatist groups. We informed him that we have always been in favour of unity but there were some who had an ego problem.” Molvi Ansari said that “we suggested Mr Khan that first of all, India and Pakistan should start trusting each other so that the ongoing confidence building measures could end the bloodshed in Kashmir.” He said “we told Mr Khan that we support the joint management idea and the formation of the joint committee to monitor the security related matters.” The APHC leader said that “we want a durable peace in the region and an amicable settlement of the Kashmir issue.”He said “we told the foreign secretary that people in Kashmir are sandwiched between the security forces and the militants. Where ever there was killing it was the loss of blood of Kashmiris. We suggested that measures be initiated to stop violence so that there was no loss of life in Kashmir.” Asked whether Mr Geelani had lost the support from the establishment in Pakistan Molvi Ansari said “I cannot say anything but one thing is there that Mr Geelani has never responded to our request for uniting all the factions of separatists.” Chief of Democratic Freedom Party,Mr Shabir Ahmed Shah said that he too had supported the idea of removing the veil of mistrust between India and Pakistan. He had told Mr Khan that a proper ground was needed for resolving all the issues, including Kashmir dispute, which was possible if the two sides worked with a spirit of trust and confidence. Asked what was his opinon on Mr Khan’s suggestion for forging unity among all separatists Mr Shah said that he has been always in favour of unity. He called for involvement of Kashmiri representatives,at least, in the talks on Kashmir.” Let the two sides discuss all issues, including Siachen, trade and travel but as far as Kashmir issue is concerned we need to be involved in the dialogue.” |
