Minister for Transport Qamar Ali Akhoon today unveiled RE GDi Autorikshaw, launched by Bajaj Auto’s at an impressive function here.
Designed and developed by the Bajaj Auto’s the modern technology made use of in RE GDi ensures not only a cleaner environment but also delivers low operating cost to the auto rickshaw owners.
Speaking on the occasion, Akhoon appreciated the Bajaj Auto’s for introducing the modern Auto Rickshaw for comfortable travel of the common masses. He said the newly auto rickshaw will prove beneficial for the owners as well passengers because of less oil consumption and less pollution and good mileage.
The Minister stressed upon the auto rickshaw operators to use meters while ferrying passengers and charge the fare as per meter reading. He asked them to behave decently with commuters as the State is primarily Tourist State. This, he said sends good message across that helps to attract more and more tourists to the State.
Akhoon said various measures are under the active consideration of the government for streamlining and regulation of traffic in the state. He said several long term and short term measures are being introduced shortly in this regard. These measures, he said include construction of new flyovers, creation of more parking slots, installation of traffic signals and underground metro service, etc.
IGP, Traffic H K Lohia while speaking on the occasion suggested introduction of safety features in newly launched auto rickshaws in the interest of passengers. He also stressed on charging reasonable fare to the passengers.
