Special incentives to improve female ratio: Sham | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, April 22: Minister for Health & Family Welfare Sham Lal Sharma has called for effective mechanism to curb the menace of female foeticide to improve the male/female sex ratio in the State. He has directed the enforcement agencies to gear up the surveillance system and take stern action against the Ultra Sound clinics who are engaged in unlawful activities of conducting sex determination. The Minister was speaking at a high-level meeting and interactive workshop of officers held at Gandhi Nagar hospital today, which was convened to review the implementation of PNDT Act and to discuss ways and means to promote female sex ratio in Jammu and Kashmir. Stressing the need for coordinated efforts to achieve common goal, the Minister asked the Deputy Commissioners to devote their time to deal with this sensitive issue. He said sharp declining in the ratio of female child is an eye opener and shocking for all and need of the hour to evolve seriousness to check the killing of the girl child, which is an heinous crime. Minister issued strict instructions to the Chief Medical Officers to initiate action for closure of all those Ultrasound clinics which are not fulfilling the necessary formalities. He said that efforts should be made to bring attitudinal change in the mindset of the people about the impact of the sex ratio and difference between the male and female in today’s modern world. He said that Government would evolve some special incentives to encourage the mothers for giving birth to female child, he added. On the occasion, the Minister also released a book on the performance of the health department. The book titled “Performance Review” brought out by the Department of Health & Family Welfare contains the achievements of last three years in the health sector, data of every individual health institution in the State. Later, the Minister also released another book authored by Vaid Puran Chand Sharma of village Mera Mandrian, at an impressive function organized by the Viklang Chhatra Trust at Akhnoor. The book titled “Arogya Shareer – Swasth Man” Disease-free body – Active Brain” contains Yoga advices and preventives measures to keep body disease free. Vaid Puran Chand has also shared his more than 50 years experience in the field of healthcare.
