| Six-day theatre fiesta in offing | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
Jammu, Apr 23: Twelve theatrical groups would vie for the top honours in the upcoming drama fiesta being organized by Shivani Cultural Society (SCS) and Lakshay-The Aim (LTA) in collaboration with Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art Culture and Languages.(JKAACL)
As per the ritual of Odeon Odyssey, the concept of theatre of convenience envisaged by Vikram Sharma, the noted dramatist of the state, the theatre fiesta entitled as ‘Carnival’ would host 12 short plays of different genre in six-day competition that opens at K L Saigal Hall on Monday.
Last year also, a one day festival with six theatre groups participating in it was hosted by Odeon Odyssey which was highly acclaimed by the theatre workers of the state.
The idea is about presenting an open invitation to the theater doers as per their convenience to perform any theatrical idiom that showcases his or her innate talent as an actor, says Vikram Sharma and Raveesh Mengi , the collaborators of the event.
Cash prizes in different categories besides trophies and mementoes would be presented to the winners through a judgment given by the panel of Judges that include alumni of SCS besides Kajal Suri who has specially flown to Jammu from Delhi as an expert.
JKAACL secretary Zafar Iqbal Manhas, additional secretary Savita Bakshi, Natrang director Balwant Thakur, Rangyug director Deepak Kumar, ATG director, Mushtaq Kak, Dogri Sanstha president Lalit Magotra, Director Distance Education, JU Minakshi Kilam, SDP president and renowned poetess Darakshana Andrabi, renowned world class actor Susham Sharma, internationally acclaimed poetess Geetika Kohli, Samooh director Sudhir Mahajn and renowned female scientist Pragaya Khanna would preside over the event as chief guest and guest of honours.
Lalit Gupta and Ashok Sharma would preside as art critics to the whole event, the results of which would be declared on May 1 at Chanakya’s restaurant in front of the performers on a buffet lunch organized by the Chanakya’s restaurant as its event partner.
