Hand over the case of cross voting by MLA’s to CBI: VKMI | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, April 23: A deputation of Vichar Kranti Manch, led by its founder Dr Ram Rattan Khajuria called on the Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah and submitted a memorandum demanding effective steps to be taken to uproot corruption from the administration and public life. The deputation expressed concern over J&K state being adjudged as the second most corrupt state in the country and expressed the hope that the young Chief Minister will take appropriate steps to remove this stigma. VKMI demanded that lok Ayuket should be appointed in the state. The lok Ayuket bill should be drafted jointly by the representatives of the government and from the civil society, comprising eminent jurists with proven integrity. The memorandum also demanded making the state Accountability Commission and RTI Commission functional with sharper teeth. They demanded that the recent case of cross voting by MLAs of a political party in the elections to the state legislative council should be handed over to the CBI for independent probe, exposing both the sellers and the buyers. The culprits should be given stern punishment, besides disqualifying them as members of the assembly. VKMI also demanded introduction of teaching in ethics and moral values in the curriculum of educational institutions as well as regular lessons on these should be imparted to the police force and official in the state government. The munch also demanded purging of corrupt element from the judiciary, restoring people’s faith in the institution. The deputation further informed the Chief Minister that VKMI has launched a concrete drive against this menace. The chief minister gave patient hearing to the deputation and assured of taking effective steps to against corruption.
