Gujjar Bakerwals express gratitude to coalition partners | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Apr 22: The Gujjar Bakerwal community today expressed gratitude to coalition partners in Jammu and Kashmir for providing two seats in Legislative Council to senior Gujjar leader master Noor Hussain from Reasi and community sympathiser Jahangeer Hussain Mir from Poonch. In a message of thanks separately sent to Indian National Congress president Sonia Gandhi and National Conference’ J&K’s chief Farooq Abdullah through Tribal Research and Cultural Foundation –a frontal organisation of Gujjars-the community expressed hope that both parties would also consider the candidature of at least one community leader for cabinet berth in awaiting expansion of ministry in the state. Javaid Rahi, secretary Tribal Foundation stated that both Jahangeer Hussain and master Noor Hussain have already rendered appreciable services for Gujjar community and done extra ordinary work for educational, economical and cultural upliftment of tribal and nomadic communities especially Gujjars and Bakerwals in near past. He hoped that they will work vigorously for Gujjars and other marginalised communities in next six years as MLC. He said the contribution of Mir family especially the contribution of Jahangeer Hussain Mir as MLA Poonch in 2007-2008 was unmatched and he hoped that he will continue to serve suppressed class in next six year. Gujjar community of Poonch District also celebrated the victory of Jahangeer Mir and master Noor Hussain when both were elected as members of Legislative Council. Rahi said master Noor Hussain did a very pioneering work for rehabilitation of Dhoodhi nomad Gujjars and hoped that master will highlight the plight of Gujjars in elders house as well.
