NPSU demands National University for Blind in Jammu. | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, April 23: Suraj Singh (Provincial Organizer NPSU and President, Blind Council) at GGM Science College, Jammu after paying obeisance to the ‘students memorial’ in execution of his earlier statement to sit on “FAST UNTO DEATH”, before the large gathering of students and sympathizers, moved one step ahead to complete this movement which is only for ensuring dignity and security of fundamentals and civil rights of the visually challenged people within and outside the state. Speaking on the occasion Suraj Singh stated that “Visual Disability is no disability but like our rulers those who have mental disabilities are the real disabled. He appealed to all supporters, student organizations, social organizations and social activists and also to all the politicians to come forward and support the genuine memorandum of demands. Addressing the gathering, Pushvinder Singh said that it is very unfortunate that people like Suraj Singh had to take such step to get their genuine demands fulfilled and it’s a matter of shame for the State as well as Central government which could not fulfil the genuine demands of the blind people. He stated that a School for Blind was established in 1956 and had intake capacity of 25 but after so many decades; presently in 2011 it has the same intake capacity of 25. There are more than 20,000 blind children in the state below the age of 10 who have every civil and fundamental right to receive education but it is provided to only 25 children at present. He also supported the demand of establishing the National University for Blind in Jammu. Varun Dev and Partap Singh Jamwal exhorted that the student community will leave no stone unturned to get the demands of blind fulfilled and pledged to support them till their last breath.
