26 more employees suspended for refusing poll duty | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Srinagar, Apr 23 : Jammu and Kashmir government today suspended 26 more employees of various departments for refusing Panchayat poll duty. With this so far about 100 employees had been suspended in Anantnag, Kulgam, Ganderbal and Badgam district for their absence on election duty during first three phases of panchatat polls in the state. An official spokesman said here today that District Election Officer, Budgam pending enquiry, ordered the immediate suspension of 26 employees who were found absent from election duty during phase 3rd on April 20. The suspended officials are 2 lecturers, 2 headmasters, 17 teachers and others. Taking strong note of the irresponsible attitude of the employees the District Election Officer warned all officials drafted for polling duty for next 5 phases to ensure compliance of the orders falling which disciplinary action for dereliction of duty shall follow under election law. The 16 phase panchayat polls, being held after two decades, started from April 13 despite boycott call by breakaway Hurriyat Conference and some militant organisations. The first three phases recorded more than 80 per cent polling in the Kashmir valley. A woman candidate, associated with main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Haseena Begum was shot dead by gunmen on April 16 at Pakherpora in central Kashmir district of Badgam, a day before polling on April 17.
