Relief commissioner urged for remedial measures for displaced KPs
4/23/2011 10:09:18 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
Jammu, Apr 23: A delegation of National Conference minority cell members under the chairmanship of its president S. Harmohinder Singh met with Relief Commissioner (migrants) Vinod Koul at Jammu.
Various problems which are being faced by hapless communities were highlighted and discussed and remedial measures were sorted out in phased manner.
The relief commissioner gave a patient hearing to the delegation and issued on the spot instructions to subordinate staff for disposing off genuine and just demand of displaced families.
President Harmohinder Singh urged upon the authorities to adopt smooth and transparent methods for the allotment of quarters at Jagti Township to the effected families of Kashmiri Pandits and Sikhs those who were putting up in slum like one room tenements since January 1990 at various camps at Purkhoo , Mishri wala , Nagrota and Udhampur etc.
Non camp migrants should be given dispensation such as allotment of quarters at Jagti because they are also sufferers and are paying huge house rents in different localities of Jammu.
Apart from this a policy is to be framed expeditiously by the government to grant H.R.A. (house rent allowances) simultaneously with cash relief till allotment process is being made effective .The meager monthly cash assistance of Rs. 5000/- does not suffice the daily needs of each family as the rates of essentials are sky rocketing .
In the end Harmohinder Singh exhorted the delegations to strengthen the hands of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah , who has already assured the displaced communities that their comprehensive settlement is the upper most priority of his government and will be given succor and ameliorate the sufferings in shortest and possible way , and hailed the policies and programs of coalition government which excels in right directions.
President minority cell Jammu also appealed to the Chief Minister to extend the construction of more flats at Jagti Township to accommodate more deserving displaced families at war footing. K.S. Mehta secretary minority cell also spoke on the occasion.
