| Hakeem reviews transport sector | | | JAMMU, NOV17 Minister for Transport Mr. Hakeem Mohammad Yaseen chaired a high level meeting of transport department to review the functioning here today, various decision for streamlining the transport facilities in the state were taken. Commissioner/Secretary Transport Mr. R.K. Nargotra, Transport Commissioner Mr. Rajinder Tickoo, Special Secretary Transport, Joint Transport Commissioner, RTO and ARTO’s of Jammu attended the meeting Minister called upon the concerned authorities to ensure installation of signboards on all bus stops for the convenience of the passengers and also directed them to identify new bus stops. The Minister advised the authorities to submit a concrete proposal for re-constituting Regional Transport Action Committee well in time. He also enjoined upon them that keep close vigilance of checking of overloading and constitute special traffic squads for the purpose. He directed that no passenger vehicle should be allowed to carry the passenger beyond the seating capacity of the vehicle. Mr. Hakeem said that rules and regulation framed for the smooth running of vehicles should be implemented in letter and spirit. The Minister directed the authorities that fitness, trial test board should also be re-constituted and licenses for driving of vehicles should be issued strictly after passing the all formalities prescribed by the department under rules. The Minister said that government’s committed to provide better transport facilities to the people adding that numerous steps have been taken up in this behalf. He said that besides the private buses and matadors. The buses of RTC are plying in remote and far-flung areas of the state for the facilitation of the passengers. Mr. Hakeem said if need arises more permits be issued for plying private buses in remote areas.
