Dogri Sanstha, Dogri Dept & Dogri writers must intervene | Dogra Certificate & Dogra Identity | | Neha jammu, April 23: Spokesman of the Syed Ali Shah Geelani-led pro-Pakistan Tehrik-e-Hurriyat Ayaz Akbar has denounced Chief Minister Omar Abdullah for accusing Geelani of "misleading" Kashmiri people on the issue of Dogra certificate. He has said the "National Conference's politics is based on lies and deception." "Omar Abdullah says that the Pahari people in Jammu would be counted among Dogras by the issuance of Dogra certificate. Well, that is the problem. 45 percent of the population living in the Pahari areas of Jammu is Muslims and by issuing this so-called Dogra certificate, the government wants to erase their identity and assimilate them into Dogra society so that, when the time for resolving Kashmir issue comes, the demand for independence can be shown confined to the Valley and the rest of the state's population being happy with the Indian occupation," Ayaz has said. Akbar has also said: "One can ask what is the need for issuing a Dogra certificate when a state subject certificate is already in place for the permanent residents of Jammu and Kashmir. To this day all the residents of the state, including the Dogras, have been applying for civil and military jobs on the basis of the state subject certificate. Besides, clause 9 of the Jammu and Kashmir constitution's part 3 clearly states that for any new right to state subjects, the 2/3 majority in the Legislative Assembly must pass it before it takes the shape of a law. Therefore, the Dogra certificate order is completely illegal," he said. Akbar issued these statements two days ago. Not content with what his spokesman said, Geelani has also made similar remarks on Friday. He said: "The issuance of Dogra certificate is a very serious issue" and that his outfit "would not rest until the government revokes the order." "It is not a small issue, but a conspiracy to divide Jammu and Kashmir and erase the identity of Muslims. We will not allow the government to turn Jammu into a Dogra Desh and would continue our peaceful struggle until the government revokes the order," Geelani, in fact, said and what he said was the reiteration of his earlier stand. What Geelani and his spokesperson have said is outrageous and provocative as well as communally and politically motivated. They have not only communalized the identity of the Jammu Dogras by dividing them into Hindus, Muslims, Paharis and so on, but also accused the state government of conspiring against those in Kashmir who want separation of the state from India. According to them, all those who inhabit the Kashmir province are Kashmiris and homogeneous, which is not a fact, and that the Jammu province is heterogeneous, as the population of the province consists of Hindus, Muslims, Paharis and other socio-religious groups. They have unleashed this misinformation and ill-motivated campaign to set the followers of one religion against the other and achieve their nefarious designs. It is ironical that while those who matter in Kashmir, without any exception, have swung solidly behind Geelani & Co and extended their unflinching support to the ongoing anti-Dogra campaign, the Dogri Sanstha, premier organization of the Dogras, the Dogri Department of the Jammu University and the Dogri writers and artists have thought it prudent to watch the anti-Dogra campaign as mute spectators. Their indifferent attitude appears intriguing. It is time for them to intervene, take on the anti-Dogra forces and put things in perspective. They are quite competent to call the Kashmiris' bluff. Will they come forward? |
