| National Conference on HUE | | Qazi reiterates commitment for rehabilitation of Dal dwellers | | Hyderabad, Nov 17 Minister for Housing and Urban Development, Qazi Mohammad Afzal, has said that government is vigorously pursuing for 1000 crore financial package for permanent settlement of families around Dal and other water bodies in Summer Capital. The Minister was speaking at a two day National Conference on Housing and Urban Elevation at Hyderabad on Friday. Chief Ministers and Urban Development Ministers of 13 states participated at the inaugural function of the two-day conference. Giving details about the state governments plan for providing alternate houses to the families to be displaced from the water bodies, he said that state government requires Rs 1000 crore for the entire programme out of which Rs 322 crore are required for providing compensation to 10000 families and rest of the amount for setting up colonies for their resettlement. He said Chief Minister Mr. Ghulam Nabi Azad is vigorously pursuing Centre for early release of the package. The Minister also elaborated state government’s programme for developing colonies to accommodate residential needs of people in the cities and towns particularly in the twin capitals of Jammu and Srinagar. He said migration of people from rural areas to urban areas in search of livelihood has created problem of housing adding that social infrastructure and other facilities are being developed in the cities to overcome these problems. Mr. Qazi said that though there are only five percent families without shelter in the urban areas of the state, government is making all efforts to solve the problem of housing in these areas. Later, Mr. Qazi met the Chief Minister and Housing Minister of Andhra Pradesh. |
