Suraj’s fast unto death protest enters 2nd day | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, April 24: The fast unto death protest of President Blind Council, Suraj Singh entered its second day here today. In a statement issued to the press, Suraj Singh said that he was forced by the circumstances to resort to protest. Singh said that the sole motive of his agitation is to get the genuine demands of the blinds fulfilled. He said that no representative of the government visited the dharna site till today which is very unfortunate and it shows that how non serious are the authorities for blinds. Earlier, a large number of students and sympathizers gathered at Shaheedi Sthal outside the GGM Science College in support of Suraj Singh and raised slogans against the government for its apathy towards a blind student who is fighting for the rights of blinds. Addressing the protesting students, Sanjay Sharma (President, GGM Science College) reaffirmed his resolve to fight for the rights of the blinds until their genuine demands are fulfilled which include establishment of National University for blinds, Abrogation of SRO 62, Appointment of blind(qualified) and brailed persons as managers of blind institutes besides several others. National Panthers Student Union (NPSU) and Young Panthers have already extended their support to Suraj Singh’s protest.
