Akriti, Arushi makes clean in Chess | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, April 24: Real sisters, Akriti and Arushi Kotwal today make a clean sweep in girls’ competition held in four different age groups in the Junior State Chess Tournament, organised by All J&K Chess Association, here. While elder sister, Akriti claimed under-19, under-17, under-15 and under-13 titles, Arushi lifted under-11, under-nine and under-seven trophies. Arushi was also runners-up in all the three age categories wherein Akriti clinched the titles. In the valedictory function of the two-day competition, general secretary of the Association, Baldev Raj was chief guest, who gave away winners and runner-up trophies as also the certificates to the participants.
Monthly prize money tourney
Speaking to the participants and parents, president of the Association, Atul Gutpa disclosed that Association has decided to hold month end Sunday prize money tournaments from next month in an attempt to develop interest among young boys and girls.
The Detailed Results: Girls: Under-19: Akriti Kotwal, Ist; Arushi Kotwal, 2nd; Heena Bhat, 3rd and Meenal, 4th. Under-11: Arushi Kotwal, Ist; Meenal, 2nd; Arushi Sharma, 3rd; Avni, 3rd and Vidhi Razdan, 4th. Under-Nine: Arushi Kotwal, Ist; Meenal, 2nd and Avni, 3rd.
