| Smriti Irani to address BJP Mahila Sammelan today | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, April 24: Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) Mahila Morcha national president and TV celebrity Smriti Irani will pay 2-day visit to the state from tomorrow.
She will address “Mahila Sammelan” at Sunderbani on the first day besides taking part in other programmes. This was announced by Morcha National Vice-President Meenakshi Lekhi while addressing meeting of Morcha activists of Tarore Panchayat and adjoining areas of Samba district at Tarore town.
Meenakshi Lekhi, who was here in connection with Morcha’s country-wide campaign against price rise, corruption and black money, expressed her grave concern over the plight of women in Jammu and Kashmir, rural areas in particular. She said today even after 63 years of independence, the plight of women is miserable. The survey reports indicate that there has been decline in the birth rate of females in Jammu and Kashmir. There is an urgent need to check practice of female foeticide and stern action against those who comit such type of crime.
Mahila Morcha State President Sakina Bano, while expressing gratitude towards the central leadership for taking keen interests in J&K, said that it is the only political party in India which has always taken a lead for political empowerment of women by supporting the demand to grant reservation to women in Parliament and assemblies.
