Guv lays foundation stone of sports stadium at Katra

JAMMU, April 24: The Governor NN Vohra, who is the Chairman of the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board, laid foundation stone of the Multi-purpose Sports Stadium at Katra today. This modern stadium will be constructed by the Shrine Board at an estimated cost of about Rs. 11 crore within a period of two years. This would fulfill a very long pending demand of the people of Katra.
This stadium, with the designed capacity of 4000 spectators, will have provision for cricket, football and hockey grounds, volleyball court, squash court, changing rooms, canteens and pantry facilities, toilets and parking space for 225 cars.
The Governor performed Bhoomi Poojan and discussed the Action Plan for the construction of the Stadium.
Speaking on the occasion, Governor said that with the completion of this Stadium the local youth will get the requisite facilities for participating in various sports activities. Earlier, after his arrival at Katra, the Governor took a three hour meeting to review various ongoing development schemes of the Shrine Board for progressively facilitating the visiting pilgrims.
Keeping in view the felt needs for creating additional accommodation for the increasing number of pilgrims, the Governor asked for speedy completion of two multi-storied buildings viz Ashirwad Complex at Katra with 480 beds capacity and Parvati Bhawan at the Shrine with a capacity of around 150 beds, besides a 172-bedded Dormitory Complex at Adhkuwari, the work on which is expected to be completed in the coming months.
The Governor also reviewed the progress on the Katra-Banganga Road for which the Shrine Board has also contributed to the cost of the State Government’s project to widen and improve this road.
Later, the Governor visited the upcoming Spiritual Growth Centre at Katra being constructed by the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board at an estimated cost of Rs 12 crore.
