| Panchayats vital in rural transformation: Shabir Khan | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, April 24: Emphasizing the significance of strengthening democratic institutions in the State for effective implementation of developmental programmes, Minister of State for Power, Shabir Ahmad Khan has appealed the people to actively participate in ongoing Panchayat Elections to elect responsible and efficient representatives.
This was stated by the Minister while addressing a series of public meetings in Rajouri district during his 5-day extensive tour to the area.
Minister said that it is endeavour of the Government to confer powers at grass-root level to empower people to develop their respective areas in a more organised and logical manner.
Elaborating on the importance of role of Panchayats in development of rural and unattended areas, the Minister said that these area the vital institutions in a democratic setup which help in effective implementation of various State and Central schemes like MGNREGA, PMGSY, RMASA and IAY.
The Minister during his tour visited Doongi, Rajouri, Thanamandi and Manjakote blocks and other adjoining areas to take stock of people’s problems and developmental needs. He assured the people that all their genuine demands regarding upgradation of basic amenities would be met in a phased manner.
During the tour, the Minister conducted public darbars in remote areas of the district besides meeting a number of individuals and deputationists to listen to their grievances and developmental needs.
