Tawi Trekkers celebrate foundation day

JAMMU, Apr 24: Tawi Trekkers Jammu and Kashmir today organized a cultural programme to celebrate completion of 28 years of its existence.
Minister for Revenue Raman Bhalla, was the chief guest while Ashwani Sharma and B.R. Sharma were among the 10 Guests of Honour. The function at the Jam-packed Abhinav Theatre started with the lighting of traditional lamp by the Chief Guest. Souvenir of the club was also released on the occasion.
Souvenir was dedicated to Subhash Badyal, a founder member and pillar of the club who left for his heavenly abode six months back. A number of outstanding mountaineers, sport climbers and trekkers including Ram Singh Slathia, Everester Stanzin Youthong and Harjot Kour, an international climber were honoured for their achievements.
Club also felicitated various educational institutions for their valuable support for promotion of adventure activities. Awards for the outstanding mountaineers were presented to Ram Singh Slathia, Everester and Stanzin Youthong, who became the first mountaineer of India along with two others to scale Shivling peak.
Hajot Kour, an international climber was also felicitated along with other champion sport climbers. Award for the most distinguished service to the cause of adventure was presented to Sprawling Buds School, Jammu. Other schools honored on the occasion included Oriental Academy, St. Xavier Convent Higher Secondary School, Barnai, Shangrilla Public Higher Secondary School, Sarwal, Jammu, M.N.D.P. School, R.S.Pura MHAC School Naghani, National Academy High School, Udhampur, Vivek Nikctan High School, Udhampur, Shastri Memorial Higher Secondary School, Ploura and Shiksha Niketan Higher Secondary School Jeevan Nagar, Jammu.
Two teachers of St. Xavier Hr. Secondary School Sonia Sharma and Shweta Bhan and a teacher from Reasi Sanjiv Sharma was also honoured as best teachers of the Himalayan Trekking Programmes. Speaking on the occasion the Chief Guest appreciated the efforts of Tawi Trekkers J&K for promoting adventure sports and winning medals at the National level, he promised.
Prominent among others present on the occasion included Jaipal Singh, Secretary, J&K State Sports Council, Sh. R.S. Mehta, Director Tourism, Jammu, Ashutosh Sharma, Jt. Secretary Indian Olympic Association, S. Bhattacharjee, Chairman, North Zone Sport Climbing Committee, Siddharth Sharma, Joint Secretary, J&K State Sports Council, Neeru Goswami, Ruby Sharma, Urmil Badyal, Vidhi Singh Jamwal, Chairman, Jamwal Group of Educational Institutions.
