Dogri, Kashmiri writers seek creation of academies | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Apr 24: Dogri and Kashmiri writers, activists and intellectuals have urged Jammu and Kashmir government for the formation of an independent Dogri academy for promotion of Dogri culture and language in Jammu division and an independent Kashmiri academy for the promotion of Kashmiri culture and language in Kashmir. In a handout issued here today, it has been stated that since both the major languages of the state are deprived from their genuine rights and fighting for its due shares from last so many decades but all in vain. It is pertinent to say that Dogri and Kashmiri are in 8th schedule and have immemorial cultural heritage and literature in its credit. Both the languages have long historical background but due to cool attitude of establishment, these potential languages are being ignored badly. No culture policy has been framed till date for the promotion and development of these major regional languages and its culture. The preservation of our rich cultural heritage and development of regional languages and literature are connected with our identity and pride. Dogri language is widely spoken in Jammu region irrespective of caste and creed and Kashmiri language is widely spoken in Kashmir region irrespective of caste and creed.
