Early Times Report
JAMMU, April 25: Youth wing of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Jammu Urban today held massive demonstration led by district president S Varinder Singh Sonu , in city to lodge protest against corrupt practices being adopted by the ruling National Conference to undermine the decorum and credibility of highest democratic institutions like Legislative Council known as Upper House.
Hundreds of youth wing activists of the party participated in the protest rally which was organized to expose misdeed of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah who had brazenly purchased BJP MLAs by spending huge amount to ensure victory of coalition candidates in the just concluded Legislative Council elections.
PDP activists were gathered at Exhibition Ground outside the Press Club before starting march towards the city. Shouting of slogans against Chief Minister Omar Abdullah party activists were also carrying placard and banners to expose corrupt practices of the Chief Minister.
Addressing the gathering party leaders regretted that highly qualified unemployed youth as well as professionals have been agitating to get jobs but the government has giving the excuse of financial crunch to give employment to them.
“For creating job opportunities for educated unemployed, the government has no funds but for purchasing MLAs this dispensation has arranged a whopping amount”, PDP leaders said and expressed surprise that government has no funds for giving arrears of Sixth pay commission to its employees but for such shabby deals ruling party had arranged huge money.
They demanded a high level probe to ascertain from where such a huge amount was arranged to purchase the MLAs. They alleged that either public exchequer was misused to purchase legislators or some persons have used their black money in this Cash for Vote scam. PDP activists termed this act of the State Government as highly unethical and undemocratic.
They reiterated that those involved in purchasing MLAs were equally responsible in encouraging corruption so government especially Chief Minister Omar Abdullah must come clean on this whole episode.
“People have reason to point finger of suspicion towards Chief Minister Omar Abdullah because being head of the State, no such deal can be struck without his consent or knowledge”, they said and asked the Chief Minister to prove his innocence in this whole scandal which has blotted the democratic history of the State.
Shouting slogans against Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, the PDP activists started march towards the old city but they were stopped by the police at Dogra Chowk. Police used force to disperse the PDP activists.
