High turnout in fourth round of Kashmir panchayat polls | | | Early Times Report SRINAGAR, April 25: The fourth phase of panchayat polls in 12 blocks of Jammu and Kashmir ended on Monday, with voters once again coming out in large numbers to elect village heads. Ramhal block in north Kashmir's Kupwara district witnessed 88 percent voter turnout, officials said Polling was held from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Votes are being counted at various stations and the results will be declared Monday itself. Wakoora saw 81 percent polling, Peeru 84 percent and Devsar in south Kashmir's Kulgam district recorded 82 percent voting, officials said. In Jammu region, 75 percent voting was recorded in Nowshera, 67 percent in Kalakot, 68 percent in Ghordhi, 57 percent in Lohimalar, 69 percent in Bani, 66 percent in Duggam, and 72 percent in Mahore. Re-polling was also held in two stations of Nuner village of north Kashmir's Ganderbal district, which earlier saw incidents of violence. However, no violence was reported in Monday's round of voting. The 16-phase panchayat polls will end June 6.
