Tawi Trekkers’ 28th year: Everester Ram Singh, climber Harjot honoured

JAMMU, April 25: On its 28th year of existence, Tawi Trekkers, J&K felicitated Sub-Inspector, Ram Singh for climbing the Mount Everest and Harjot Kour for achieving the feat of becoming first international sport climber from the state in a well attended function held here.
Three other promising mountaineers of the state, Stanzin Youthog, Sajad Haider and Amreen Kousar were also honoured in recognition to their achievements.
For achievements in sport climbing, Shivani Raj Kaith, Bhawna Sharma as also Suraj Singh, Anil Kumar, Puneet Sharma and Bindia Sharma were encouraged by Tawi Trekkers. Three senior climbers, Sumit Khajuria, Shawetica Khajuria and Sheetal Sharma were admired for their services as judges.
The award for the most distinguished service to the cause of adventure was presented to Sprawling Buds School Bantalab. To recognize their contributions and further encourage them 10 more schools of the city and outskirts were. These include MHAC Nagbani, Oriental Academy, MNDP Senior Secondary School and Amba Kids Katra.
A souvenir of the club, dedicated to founder member, Subhash Badyal, was also released.
The prizes were given away by Minister for Revenue, Raman Bhalla, who was chief guest in the function. MLA Bishnah, Ashwani Sharma, Home Secretary, BR Sharma, Ashutosh Sharma and chairman North Zone Sport Climbing Committee, S Bhattacharjee were guests of honour.
Earlier, general secretary of the club, Ram Khajuria presented a brief report of the adventure activities. He disclosed his vision of winning national sport climbing championship and international medals in next three years.

Climbing walls at Gandhi Nagar, Bishnah

Speaking to the gathering, Minister for Revenue, Raman Bhalla promised to develop sport climbing infrastructure in his constituency. He asked Tawi Trekkers to submit a proposal for raising an international standard sport climbing wall in Gandhi Nagar area of the city.
Earlier, MLA Bishnah, Ashwani Sharma agreed to develop a sport climbing wall in Bishnah constituency in an attempt to provide the rural youth a chance to excel in the game.
In the meantime, chairman North Zone Sport Climbing Committee, S Bhattarcharjee announced installation of practice board in the premises of Oriental Academy Higher Secondary School.
