EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, April 25: Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) and Traffic Police today conducted a joint anti-encroachment drive to clear the footpaths, pavements and parts of roadsides in various parts of the city. A joint team of officers from JMC and Traffic Police led by Hemant Lohia Inspector General of Police (Traffic), Jammu and SC Sawhney Commissioner, Municipal Corporation Jammu held the drive at New Plot, Janipur, Shakti Nagar Bridge, Canal Head, Canal Road and Jewel Area. During the drive about 10 trucks loads of goods and articles were impound to the Municipal Yard at Town Hall, Jammu since the shopkeepers and vendors encroached upon footpaths, pavements and road sides to place the material. The placing of goods along side road was causing inconvenience to the pedestrians and also creating obstruction in the free movements of vehicular traffic. The seized goods include Scooter, Washing Machines, DVD Players, Ceiling Fans, Coolers, Chairs, UPS, Weighing Scales, Benches, Beds, Aluminium Frames, Stools, Table Frames, Earthen Pots, Sofas, Steel Racks, Water Purifiers, Music Players, Seat Covers, Soft Drinks, Ice Boxes and Iron Racks. Besides this, the team had also demolished about 15 slabs, walls found raised over the Municipal drains, footpaths and pavements on spot during the drive in these areas. Meanwhile, further continuing the drive against the adulteration of milk the Municipal Veterinary Officer along with field staff visited the areas of Gandhi Nagar, Nai Basti, Police Line, Rehari Colony, Subash Nagar, Toph Sherkhaina, Muthi, Barnai, Bantalab and Roop Nagar. During the drive 110 Milk cans were checked, out of which 3 were found to be of sub-standard quality and not fit for human consumption were destroyed on spot. Apart from this, the team had also lifted 6 stray animals from the areas of Panjthirthi, Circular Road, Bakshi Nagar, Janipur, Talab Tillo, Bahu Fort, Narwal, Railway Road, Gandhi Nagar, Satwari and impounded the stray animals in Municipal Cattle Pound. A total fine of Rs 4360 charged from the erring milk vendors and owners of stray animals.
