Cattle smugglers flee, oxen freed

JAMMU, Apr 25: Foiling an attempt of smugglers to clandestinely carry cattle to Kashmir, police today seized a truck at Sakta Chak near Nagri Parole in Kathua, which carried 14 oxen.
SSP, Kathua, J L Sharma said police intercepted a truck (JK02AG/5095) at Sakta Chak for its checking.However, seeing police, driver and his two accomplices fled the

spot, leaving the truck behind, he added, saying the search of the vehicle led cops to the recovery of 14 oxen which were being smuggled to the valley.
The SSP said the escaped persons were later identified as driver Raju Sharma of Reasi and bovine sumugglers -- Abdul Rashid of Samba and Hussain of Hariachak.
A case was registered against them at the concerned police station.
