Fan out activities to rural areas: Sham Lal

JAMMU, APRIL 25- Minister for Health and Family Welfare Mr. Sham Lal Sharma has lauded the role of Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS) for its philanthropic services in the country. He said the organization plays frontal role in dealing with challenges that crop up during natural calamities and other emergent times.
The Minister was speaking at an impressive function organized by the Jammu branch of IRCS in connection with draw of annual raffle draw here today.
Stressing the need to strengthen the functioning of the organization further, the Minister said that efforts should be made to motivate younger generation to join this philanthropic cause. He called for launching massive awareness campaign to highlight the aims and objectives of the organization to attract more and more volunteers to man it. He asked the functionaries to fan out its activities in the rural areas and train the local youth for eradicating social evils like dowry, alcoholism, drug addiction and above all female foeticide.
Assuring all necessary possible support to the organization, the Minister said that Government is keen to promote its activities for ensuring quality medicare facilities to the people especially in the rural and far-flung areas. He appreciated the organization for organizing a number of blood donation camps and awareness seminars aimed at educating the people about various dreaded diseases like AIDS and cancer.
Raffle draw in presence of a large number of volunteers and social workers was also held on the occasion. First prize went to the holder of ticket No. 072734, second to ticket Nos. 084602 and 157697. The third prized was won by the holder of ticket Nos. 102838, 110012 and 272312.
Divisional Commissioner, Jammu Dr. Pawan Kotwal threw light on the activities of the IRCS. He apprised that the IRCS has undertaken a number of welfare projects in Jammu division and extended its services in every nook and corner with the help of thousands of its volunteers. He said the focus of the organization is to motivate more and more youth to join this social forum and contribute towards betterment of the society.
