Fears of split haunt BJP leadership | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, April 25: The Bharataya Janata Party’s (BJP) state unit may split if the erring MLAs are not `tamed’ in time. The party received shock signals when five of the seven suspended MLAs withdrew their resignations last week.Senior leader Professor Chaman Lal Gupta has not withdrawn his resignation and is ready to undergo NArco test to prove his `innocence’. Internal sources said the BJP high command accepted their mistake after reports proved Chaman Lal was not involved in cross voting. The `tirade’ against Gupta, they said, was launched by some electronic channels. Gupta, sources said, is pained over his suspension. He does not rule out internal sabotage. The BJP is worried over reports that suggest that the suspended MLAs may form a new party if their suspension is not revoked. Party members , however, suggest that the suspension may be revoked after the erring MLAs apploogise. The BJP has already suffered damage in Jammu and if the on-going crisis, sources said, is not addressed immediately, the party may face total erosion.
