Early Times Report
JAMMU, April 25: Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), one of the main hospitals in Jammu, catering to the needs of vast population of the state fails to fulfill some of the basic needs of the people.
One such glaring example is unavailability of the drinking water in this hospital. Though the concerned administration had installed 8 water coolers in the hospital but to the ill fate of the patients presently when the scorching summers are ahead and demand of water has increased, only one or two water coolers are in working condition.
There is one more water cooler which has been installed by some private organization outside the hospital, but even then the shortage of drinking water is irritating the patients who are forced to buy bottles of water.
The patients from new and old emergency block, emergency ward besides recovery ward, emergency lab, x-ray room all depends upon the tap water of emergency canteen to fulfill their drinking water requirement, which is not safe for the patients.
On the condition of anonymity, one of the staff members said that the department is neglecting this issue for a long time, but as the summer season is approaching, the patients have to face more hardships. It seems as if the administration is least bothered about the patients.
.Deepak Gupta a patient said, “There is acute shortage of water in hospital. As it is summer season so water requirement has increased, so most of the times patients have to make queues in front of these functional water coolers and wait for their turn to come to quench their thirst”.
“Most of the patients so prefer bottled water. But what is administration doing. New blocks have been added, many beautification projects have been carried out but when it comes to the basic amenities, this hospital sans the basic requirements”, he added.
Despite repeated attempts, Medical Superintendent (MS) GMCH, Dr Romesh Gupta could not be contacted.
