Guv release ‘Homeland after eighteen years’ | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Apr 25: Governor N. N. Vohra today stressed on need for promoting tolerance, brotherhood and harmony to foster a peaceful, productive and orderly society. Governor, as Chief Guest, made these observations while releasing a book “Homeland after Eighteen Years” at a function held at Jammu Club here. The book has been authored by Dr. K. L. Chowdhury, a well known medical practitioner and writer. Referring to the partition of the country in 1947 and uprooting of millions of people from their hearths and homes, the Governor said that when societies lose balance and give up tolerance the consequences of such unfortunate episodes lead to disastrous situations. He stressed the need to ponder over such events in history, adding that whatever are the ideologies and objectives of any political organization, the society at large, particularly the saner elements therein, must not allow the evolution of an environment. Prof. R. L. Shant, who presided over the function, spoke about the creative genius of Dr. Chowdhury and threw light on his earlier three volumes and Dr. Jitendra Singh and Dr. K. L. Pandita also expressed their laudatory views about the book. Author of the book, Dr. Chowdhury, dwelt on the theme of the volume and recalled his childhood days in Srinagar. He thanked the Governor for sparing his precious time to release his book. In papers presented on the occasion, Prof. H. L. Misri and Prof. Deepshikha Kotwal expressed their critical appreciation of the substance and quality of Dr. Chowdhury’s poems. Sanjay Dhar presented a Vote of Thanks. Large number of writers, academicians, intellectuals, political, social activists and prominent persons comprised the audience.
