Heavy polling reported during 4th phase of Panchayat polls | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Apr 25: Over 80.55 percent voters on Monday exercised their right to franchise during the 4th phase of Panchayat elections held in 12 blocks of Jammu and Kashmir. The polling was held to elect 345 Sarpanches and 2505 panches. AIR correspondent reports, voting was smooth and peaceful amid tight security arrangements, no untoward incident has been reported from anywhere. Despite boycott call from separatists in Kashmir valley over 88.34 percent polling recorded in Ramhal block of Kupwara district, once a den of militancy, followed by 84 percent in Beerwah block of Budgam district and 81 percent in Wakura block of Ganderbal district. In Jammu region over 85% voters cast their votes in Nowshehra and 83 % in Kalakote block of border district Rajouri. In district Kathua, Bani Block also recorded 85% polling, it was 78. 59% in Duggan and 80.41 % in Loi Malhar block. In Ghordi block of Udhampur district over 75.60% polling was recorded. In Mahore block of Reasi district over 85% people turned out for polling. Great enthusiasm was seen among the voters who were standing in long queues right from the morning with strong urge to use their democratic rights. It can be better understood as voters namely Anant Ram and Jobanu both of 110 years age casted their votes at Block Gordhi and Duggam respectively.
