Jammu, Apr 25: As the much acclaimed multi-crores Jammu golf course is thrown open for the limited sports lovers of the state, a much bigger question too sets in for a judicious response from the administration as to how many lovers of this sport are active in the state and what
international or any national importance does any individual of the state holds who could be the beneficiary of such a multi-crore extravaganza at his disposal.
The golf course near the beds of Suryaputri no doubt has come as an asset to the state for getting an international level sports stadium here, but not a single individual of any standing in the sport could be found out who can make the judicious use of such course to earn reputation and recognition for state in the field.
“Why only a golf course of such magnitude and magnificence only found relevance in the government books to be established in Jammu when there are nearly half dozen small and big grounds in and around Jammu are left forlorn with no concern coming from anywhere,” said an enthusiastic cricket lover of the region.
His claim sounds strong as there are many a players in variegated field in Jammu and Kashmir barring golf who have earned international reputations but are left wanting due to non availability of proper infrastructure to pursue their careers.
Cricket to start with, sportsperson like Mithun Manhas who is presently playing in the IPL 20-20 cricket of international level is one good example besides some names in wrestling, badminton and roller skating already having listed their authorities on the national panorama, nothing have been envisaged by the government for their benefits.
Not a single international quality turf for cricket, hockey, badminton or even wrestling appears in Jammu and Kashmir, besides the fact that some of the sportspersons in the respective fields have already earned national as well as the international fame in their respective games.
Many a grounds like parade grounds, mini stadium or for the matter of fact, the Ma stadium even, being the crowning glories of the region that would have hosted great events of international natures also has been left ignored by the government only to divert its attention towards multi-crores Golf Course that has come at the River Tawi base.
Here it becomes pertinent to mention that Union Minister for Renewable Energy Farooq Abdullah is very ardent fan of this sport and has quite often seen in Kashmir to play the sport in his often leisure times. Jammu, hence also needed one.
As its opening ceremony however was solemnized yesterday amongst great fanfare, Farooq Abdullah made a very peculiar statement on the Course having come besides River Tawi with the name given “Tawi” to it saying, ”“I did not like this name, it sounds awkward. Iska Naam Kuch Aisa Pyar Bhara Hona Chahiye Ki Koi Aaye, to Kahe Ki Kya Ashikon Wali Jagah Hai”.
How sarcastically Farooq Abdullah chose “River Suya Putri’s “bed as an unfit venue for golf course impressing upon the authorities to change its name sounds very unrealistic of the grandeur of Abdullah whose premium loyalties to all gods are same as he has for his own.
Jammuites revers river tawi as Maa Suryaputri’ which is held in same esteem as one of the goddesses. Golf Course coming on its name is a bountiful gift for the people of state and it should not be changed at any cost,” was a common opinion of people who spoke on this issue.
