Governor chooses to downplay reference made by Dr Jitendra Singh on change of nomenclature | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Apr 26: Choosing to down play the references made by BJP chief spokesperson and its national executive member Dr Jitendra Singh towards the 2008 Amarnath land row and change of the no nomenclature of Governor to Sadar-e-Riyast at a book release function here today, the Governor N N Vohra preferred to talk about the book and literature instead of entering into any controversy. Dr Jitendra Singh while speaking on the occasion of release of Dr K L Chowdhary’s book Homeland after 18 years (a 48 hour travelogue in Kashmir), said he will hope that during the next meeting he would not have to address the Governor as Sadar-e-Riyasat in view of the reported move of the Government to restore the pre 1953 status to the state on the recommendations of the Centre’s interlocutors. Dr Singh while referring to Kashmiri Pandits said that even in exile they fought for their self esteem and they contributed a lot in educating the people here to struggle for their self esteem. He, while lauding the role of KPs in the Amarnath land row struggle, Dr Singh said the maximum effigies, prabhat pharies and protests were held in the areas where displaced Pandits were putting up. He said the KPs are health conscious and they nationalists by core. He while lauding the role of Dr Chowdhary said that time has not proved him to be a good doctor but also a good literary philosopher. However the Governor tired to down play the same and he did not make any reference to it and instead spoke about Dr Chowdhary’s book and the literature. The Governor, while acclaiming the book said that when Dr Chowdhary could write such a good verse in 48 hours he can create wonders by sitting for a more period in valley. Mr Vohra invited Dr Chowdhary to stay in Kashmir Valley with him for a more time this Summer. In his speech Dr Chowdhary gave account of his first travel to his homeland (Kashmir) where he became nostalgic after visiting the areas in which he spent the prime period of his life and the place where he was born and brought up. Speaking on the occasion Dr R L Shant highlighted the role and contribution of KPs in promotion of culture and literature. He while quoting Kapila Vatsayan, Director Sahitya Academy who had said that KPs though are not good travelers but wherever they went during their short travel they penned down it and presented the same in the form of beautiful travelogues. The vote of thanks was proposed by Sanjay Dhar while the programme was compared by Pardeep Koul.
